About the apartments

Are bed linen and towels provided?

No. A mattress and mattress protector are provided. Please bring your own bed sheet (100x200cm), pillow, duvet and towels.

What should I do if the shower drain is not working?

You are responsible for cleaning the drain in the shower regularly, otherwise the water will not drain.

Can I drill holes in the wall?

If you want to install something on your wall, we ask you to use adhesive strips so as not to damage the walls. It is important that you leave all rooms as you found them when you moved in.

Can I paint my walls?

No. You are not allowed to paint your walls.

Can I share a room with friends?!

Basically, we are happy to allow you to move in with your friends. Contact us to see if we can make this happen for you.

Can I sublet my room?!

No. With a contract term of six months, this shouldn’t be necessary.

How are the apartments equipped?!

In the common living space, there is a common room with a kitchen, a lounge area and a wardrobe as well as a bathroom. In your room you will find a bed, a desk, a chair, a closet, shelves, and a comfortable beanbag chair. If you opt for the Standard or Prime package, the kitchen will come equipped with all utensils (cutlery, dishes, pots, pans, etc.).

What is the address?

That depends on which of the three buildings you will move into. Their addresses are:

Where is the building? What does the neighborhood offer?

The building is conveniently located close to the most important venues in Wuppertal, be it the university or the city center. You can find out more here.

Is the building environmentally friendly?

Yes. Two of the buildings have been built to the latest environmental standards and the other building has been refurbished to ensure that it, too, is environmentally friendly.

About the rental process

What documents do I need to complete the rental process?

German students need

  • Identity card or passport
  • Proof of salary or BAföG certificate
  • Self-disclosure
  • Certificate of enrollment or proof of apprenticeship

Foreign students need

  • Residence permit
  • Proof of a blocked account
  • Certificate of enrollment or proof of apprenticeship

What do I have to consider when moving out?

Please arrange a hand-over date with us in good time. The apartment should look exactly the same when you move out as it did when you moved in. You will be charged a cleaning fee of €175. The cleaning fee is particularly for a hygienic cleaning of the mattress. This way we can make sure that everyone feels comfortable with us.

How can I cancel my lease?

You don't have to write down a date to meet deadlines. It expires automatically.

What is the number of my apartment?

You will find the number of your apartment on the door. You will also find the number of the apartment and the number of your room in the rental contract.

For example, 01.002 stands for Room 2 in Apartment 1.

Are items such as bedding available?

No. You should bring them with you or buy them elsewhere.

Are there house rules?

Can I change my apartment?

We can discuss this with you personally.

How do I pay the rent?

Please pay the rent monthly. Details are in the rental contract, which we will send you via the tenant portal.

What do I need when I move in?

Not much: ID, toothbrush, towel, blanket and pillow, and a little time so that we can show you around.

When can I move in?

We will discuss the date with you individually. Generally, we prefer a weekday move-in from 10:00 to 16:00.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

Yes. Please transfer a deposit amounting to three basic rents as security before moving in. We will keep this amount safe for you until you move out. You will find more details in the rental contract. Please note that deposit and rent are to be transferred to different accounts.

Do I have to pay a commission or fees when signing a contract?

No, there are no additional costs. When you move out, there is only a cleaning fee of €175.

I have questions about my lease. Who can answer them?

If you have any questions about your documents, please feel free to contact us and we will discuss them with you. We look forward to receiving a call or email from you.

What happens after I have sent my application?

We will check if your application is complete and will contact you if anything is missing. If you would like to make an appointment for a visit, you can book it online. Alternatively, we will send you the rental contract directly via email.

Is there a minimum rental period?

The rental period is one semester or 6 months. If you need a room for a shorter period of time, we can check for you if this is possible.

How can I choose and rent a room?!

Go to Rent a Room to choose your room. From there, you can easily navigate through the rental process digitally. You don't even need to show up in person. Of course, you are always welcome to take a look around before renting. Just arrange a visit with us. Take a look at our sample shared apartment in the virtual tour!

Can I only rent a room as a student?

No. No matter if you are studying, writing your thesis, or doing an internship near Wuppertal – if you are also enrolled at a German college or university like the University of Wuppertal, you can rent an apartment with us.

Do I need a liability insurance?

Yes, you absolutely need liability insurance.

Personal liability insurance in general:
A liability insurance, or "Privat-Haftpflichtversicherung", is a non-life insurance that protects individuals from claims for unintentional damage they cause to third parties.

Without insurance, individuals would have to cover the full cost of damages themselves.

Personal liability insurance for you as a tenant:
Costs are covered by your insurance for such things as:

  • Replacement or repair of damaged items
  • Salvage, treatment and rehabilitation of injured persons (including personal injury compensation)

Where can I find the tenant portal and instructions?

On the page for tenants you will find everything you need to know as a tenant of a flat with us. The login to the tenant portal is also stored and explained there.

Which universities and colleges do most residents attend?

Is there a curfew time?

Yes. Please respect that other residents and the neighbors want to enjoy a quiet night from 22:00 to 6:00.

Are guests allowed to stay with me overnight?

We are happy when you have visitors! However, your visitors should stay at most 3 days.

Are we allowed to have a barbecue?

Even though we offer green spaces and outdoor areas on our premises, unfortunately, we do not have any barbecue facilities here.

Where can I find the mailboxes and the parcel station?

You will find the mailboxes and the parcel station in the driveway. To use the parcel station, you must register for it in the tenant app. Here you can find the instructions for using the parcel station.

I lost my key / transponder. What to do?

Please let us know immediately. We will be happy to help you and arrange for a replacement.

What is a broadcasting fee?

In principle, every household in Germany is required to pay a broadcasting fee. However, there are some exceptions, which also apply to BAföG beneficiaries, for example. How can I get connected to the internet?

Each tenant has their own Wi-Fi router. Internet use is included for everyone. You can find instructions here.

What services are available?

Mainly digital services: tenant app, digital parcel station, digital mailbox system, digital locking system, high-speed internet, and a mobile payment service for both printing and laundry.

Do you have a place where I can do my laundry?

You can wash your clothes in the laundry room (in House 1). There you will find washing machines and dryers. The laundry room is available to you in the Standard and Prime packages.

How can I reach you?

You can reach us by phone or email. If you need a staff member directly on site, you can contact us via the tenant app.

Are there common rooms?

Of course! And there are lots of them. You can find more information about our common rooms here.

Are there parking spaces for cars and bicycles?

Sure. From the rental of the standard package upwards, 27 parking spaces and sufficient bicycle parking spaces are available.

Do you have a cellar?

Unfortunately, we cannot provide you with a cellar room.

Can I take my pet with me?!

You share an apartment with other people. Would you be happy to have a cat, dog, or crocodile in your own home? The answer is no.
